Monroe City Council vote against Captain Daniel Overturf sparks controversy among MFD and city council [Video]

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The Monroe Firefighters Association discussed their reaction to the city council’s vote during a press conference on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

“While we are regularly thanked for our service, our feedback with regard to who we believe can lead us the best and ensure superior public safety for our residents was blatantly disregarded with the vote,” said Monroe Firefighters Association President Jeremy Hinton.

Hinton explained there was an anonymous survey taken from members of the union which showed almost 85% were in support of the mayor’s decision to appoint Captain Daniel Overturf as the next fire chief.

“You could see the support of men and women from all parts of our city if you watched last night’s council meetings,” said Hinton.

Many members of the fire department approached the podium during the city council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 to speak in support of Captain Overturf.
