Monclova Fire Dept. receives federal grant [Video]

The funding will allow for the hiring of three additional firefighters, the department said.

MONCLOVA, Ohio — The Monclova Township Fire Department was awarded a $1 million federal grant to assist in its station’s staffing initiatives, according to a press release from the fire department. 

A Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, amounting to $1,013,046, was awarded to the department from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The funding will allow for the hiring of three additional full-time firefighters, the department said in the release.

These new hires will be assigned to shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage, the department said. 

Only 11 other organizations in Ohio received the SAFER grant during the funding round, according to the release. The grant itself was created with the staffing interests of fire departments and volunteer firefighting organizations in mind.
