Moderna partners with U.S. Government on Bird Flu Vaccine [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a partnership with Moderna to develop a vaccine for Avian Influenza following an outbreak in dairy herds across the country.

The deal is giving Moderna 176 million dollars. The vaccine is already in the early stages of development. It would protect people from contracting the disease from animals and potential mutations allowing the spread of the bird flu from person to person.

Avian Influenza has four recorded cases in the United States this year. There has been a case in Texas, two cases in Michigan, and one case was detected on Wednesday, July 3 in Colorado.

The CDC said that while there have been infections in animals all of the food they have tested is clean and that for now, the bird flu is not something to worry about contracting from food.
