Missouri lawmakers prepare to discuss tax cuts in 2025 legislative session, starting Wednesday [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—As lawmakers prepare for Wednesday’s first day of the legislative session, Republicans and Democrats want to lessen Missourians’ financial burden. Both parties think tax cuts could be a solution but can’t agree on which taxes to cut.

Wednesday starts a new legislative session in Missouri, with new leadership and priorities. The Missouri House of Representatives and Missouri Senate will convene for the first time this year at noon, and newly elected lawmakers and leadership will be officially sworn in.

The new Senate Majority Floor Leader, Sen. Tony Luektemeyer, said his party hopes to tackle income taxes this year. Several Republican lawmakers have already written bills to phase out the state income tax.

“Income tax is just punishing somebody for having a job and going out and making money, and so that’s why we would really like to see the income tax cut,” Luektemeyer said.
