MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– Hundreds of veterans and community members on Saturday indulged in a pig roast and homemade barbecue — and all for a good cause.
Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina — a nonprofit that supports mothers of children serving in the armed forces — hosted the event at the Myrtle Beach Moose Lodge on Burcale Road.
Everything was donated, with about 40 door prizes contributed from local businesses. For $17, attendees received a wristband for an all-you-can-eat afternoon.
Carol Dion, president of the local branch, said last year’s event brought in about $12,000.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it really does make a difference,” she said.
Dion said after four years of trying, Mission BBQ was able to secure a Wreaths Across America mobile education truck, which will be at its North Myrtle Beach site from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. …
