MINNEAPOLIS β The Minneapolis City Council and Mayor Jacob Frey both started Friday with the goal of lowering a proposed property tax levy that would prove a hardship for many residents. They got there β but took different paths amidst finger-pointing and sharp words.
During Friday’s session, the council voted to drop the proposed 2025 property tax levy from 8.3% to 6.9%, a 1.4% reduction. In a news release announcing the development, council members said the cuts were made by reducing raises for the 160 highest-paid city staff members, deferring the implementation of technology projects and delaying the purchase of an internal computer software package.
