Milwaukee community organizations are teaming up with the city to crack down on illegal dumping. Because of a series of 12 News investigates stories on the issue, 12 News Nick Bohr was invited to a first-of-its-kind meeting Wednesday, a community summit on stopping illegal dumping. Frustrated by a surge in illegal dumping in Milwaukee, community organizers called for the meeting to offer some of their ideas. “This is a huge ongoing issue,” said community organizer Andrea Rodriguez. Their letter to the city led to the summit with the Department of Neighborhood Services. Their collaboration is already spawning a pilot program to provide surveillance cameras to neighborhood organizers who want them. “The cameras are a start of this conversation but really educating people about what the significance of this is and how it can actually bring down our community,” Rodriguez said. “I combat it by going out there and cleaning,” said …
