Middlesex Chamber of Commerce discusses plan to remove Route 9 traffic lights [Video]

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has been looking at removing the traffic lights from Route 9 in Middletown for the better part of a decade.

Wednesday morning, officials discussed the latest plan with the new Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Route 9 Removal Committee.

“[We want to] get all the local officials together, the business community and the first responders and emergency management,” Middlesex Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Johanna Bond said. “This is just the beginning phases of them looking into what’s going on with this project in terms of environmental.”

Since it’s the first meeting, the chamber decided to make it a private. That did not sit well with one outspoken light removal critic.
