Middle schoolers learn welding through Rosie’s Girls summer camp [Video]

For more than two decades, Vermont Works for Women has been hosting its Rosie’s Girls camps across the state.It’s an opportunity for girls and gender-expansive youth to try out non-traditional fields, such as STEM and skilled trades.This week more than a dozen campers were in Barre.They learned how to weld.For many, it was their first time ever.By the end of the week, campers were creating all types of sculptures from flowers, dogs, and bird wind chimes.For 8th grader Ember Pangman, it even sparked some new career aspirations. “This camp has made me realize how fun welding is,” said Pangman. “It’s made me think about going into the field as an adult.”The impact of the camp can be long-lasting.Ada Case participated in the camp when she was in middle school about a decade ago.Now, she’s giving back working for Vermont Works for Women as a youth program coordinator. “I think there’s …
