Metro Nashville schools to implement new AI policy for upcoming school year [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Nashville Public Schools will be starting the school year with a new artificial intelligence policy.

A new Tennessee law requires all school boards to adopt a policy on how students and staff can use artificial intelligence.

The policy allows students and teachers to use Canva, a graphic design tool. Teachers are also allowed to use Microsoft Copilot, which MNPS said is more secure than other AI software while still using ChatGPT.

The guidelines also emphasize transparency and require directors of schools to review AI policies yearly, keep students’ families updated on which programs they can use, and maintain a list of approved AI programs on the schools’ websites.
