LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) and NDOT have received a federal grant to launch a transportation project analysis initiative.

The Transformative Regional Investment Prioritization System, or TRIPS, was given the green light by the Federal Highway Administration in an announcement from NDOT Thursday.

TRIPS aims to ensure transportation projects in the Omaha metro area align with regional priorities through data analysis and public engagement.

Through those methods, TRIPS should identify the “most impactful projects that can bring long-term benefits to the region.”

A statement released Wednesday says that TRIPS will bring more collaboration between NDOT and MAPA, create an “equitable decision-making framework”, and emphasize enhanced public engagement.

“We are excited to collaborate with MAPA on this important project. TRIPS will help NDOT make informed decisions that improve Nebraska’s transportation system and enhance residents’ quality of life,” said NDOT Director Vicki Kramer.
