Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have effectively been stuck in the International Space Station for months, after what was expected to be an 8-day mission.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group of astronauts had a message Tuesday for the people back on Earth: Merry Christmas.
The International Space Station shared a video on social media featuring some of the astronauts on it. Those included Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who recently learned that their original 8-day mission could now take around 10 months as they await a chance to return home.
They originally flew up to test Boeing’s new spacecraft, and the test revealed some issues that made the craft unsafe to return on. Wilmore, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech, as well as Williams, have had their return dates delayed several times since then.
