FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – A month after a 300-employee job cut, Mercury Marine is holding short-term layoffs that will impact 1,700 hourly employees.
According to a memo obtained by Action 2 News and verified by Mercury Marine, the company’s Fond du Lac plant will be holding several short-term layoffs between July and November, with two having been completed from July 1-3 and July 8-12. One line of the plant will have short-term layoffs in early December.
Lee Gordon, the vice president of corporate communications for Mercury Marine, told Action 2 News that these short-term layoffs will take out around six weeks of production from now until the end of the year.
“This is taking place as a result of continued high interest rates and near-term reductions in boat production by Mercury’s boat builder partners,” said Gordon.
