BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Mainers are preparing for the heat.
We spoke with the Maine Emergency Management Agency for some advice on how to stay safe.
First, make sure you stay hydrated to avoid a medical event like heat stroke.
It’s also advised you stay away from alcohol, caffeine, or sugary drinks.
If you’re in need of a cooling center, remember cooling centers aren’t operated by the state, it’s a local matter.
If you don’t have internet access, you can call 2-1-1 and ask an operator to connect you to a cooling center near you.
The public information officer for the MEMA says Mainers should approach the heat just like any other weather event, with a plan.
