LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Numerous local athletes across the country have now penned in their college letters of intent, with 20 new football players set to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
As those names dropped on social media throughout the day on Wednesday, they were accompanied with artwork depicting each new Husker player.
Since October, four student artists at UNL have worked on those portraits, making 25 total for potential incoming Nebraska players.
Lea Bushey, a senior graphic design major and one of the minds behind the idea, said each one was carefully hand painted for hours across several empty garage walls at the Osborne Legacy Complex.
“They’ve never done anything like this here before,” she said. “We thought that in this digital era, it’d be really cool to have a hand painted, hand crafted thing.”
Using reference photos of each player taken during visits to UNL, the quartet of painters sketched their likenesses on the walls before filling them in.
