Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance working with AEP to create the best route possible [Video]

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Appalachian Power has plans to upgrade the transmission system serving customers in Cabell and Putnam counties, but those plans make for an uncertain future for a local tourist attraction.

The issue is that the new above ground line system will go straight through Meeks Mountain Trails.

Since the announcement, the community that built the trails has rallied behind the trails. As soon as U.S. Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., got back from Taiwan she visited to see what the community had built from the ground up.

“What an incredible space that they have right here and the view and the thought and the love that has gone into this project is incredible,” Miller said, adding that she hasn’t spoken with Appalachian Power directly but her office has.

Since the open house on Aug. 13 and 14, American Electronic Power and Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance have had four meetings at the trails.
