McGhee Tyson Airport urges travelers to arrive early as passenger numbers soar [Video]

More people using the airport is leading to longer lines at security, a spokesperson said.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Anyone who arrives at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) with just a few minutes to spare before their scheduled flight time might want to rethink their strategy. 

Due to an increase in people flying in and out of McGhee Tyson Airport, security lines are backing up and keeping things busy, according to Becky Huckaby, a spokesperson with TYS.

“We had 3.3 million passengers come through our airport (last year) which is a record for us,” Huckaby said. “So more people are traveling.”  

The airport had a half-million more visitors in 2024 than it did in 2023 and the growth is expected to continue. 

“We have a lot of new destinations, including some that are going to be starting in February and May on Allegiant this year, to Gulf Shores and Sarasota, so things are really growing here at McGhee Tyson,” she said.
