Mayor addresses weekend Montgomery mass shooting [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Mayor Steven Reed addressed Sunday morning’s mass shooting in north Montgomery at a press conference moments after returning from the United States Conference of Mayors in Kansas City.

“I understand why people do not feel safe,” the mayor explained. “They are inundated with things that are happening more than ever. To be honest, we have too many incidents with gun violence. There is no getting around that.”

Reed emphasized that law enforcement can only do so much, and community involvement is a crucial step towards a safer city.

Mayor Reed, Acting Police Chief John Hall, and officials from the ATF held a joint news conference Sunday evening.

“Those who know what happened need to come and let us know who is involved and why they were involved,” Reed said. “It doesn’t matter how many officers, we could have three times the ATF agents, FBI, sheriff’s deputies, ALEA,” he continued. “They can’t be on every corner policing every interaction …
