MAXWELL, Iowa — One person has died following a Wednesday car accident involving an SUV and a semi-truck, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The accident occurred at the intersection of NE Hubbell Avenue and NE 112th Street. The semi, which was hauling a trailer full of pigs, overturned as a result of the crash.
The driver of the SUV, an adult woman, was taken to the hospital in “critical condition.” She has since died, the sheriff’s office said in an update.
Preliminary investigations indicate the semi was driving north while the SUV was driving east.
The northbound lanes of NE Hubbell Avenue were closed at NE Santiago Drive but have since reopened.
