The trail’s southern loop remains closed.
OREGON, Ohio — The boardwalk at Maumee Bay State Park has reopened, more than a year after it was damaged in a tornado outbreak.
According to a social media post from the park, the boardwalk reopened on Sept. 13. In addition to its repairs, the park has built a “bird’s nest” observation deck.
The bottom of the “large loop” remains under construction, the park said. A map below, provided by the park, shows the extent of the closure.
The boardwalk was damaged during a June 15, 2023 tornado outbreak. According to the National Weather Service, the EF-0 tornado touched down at 6:20 p.m. and was on the ground for eight minutes.
The NWS also said a waterspout developed 0.8 miles north of South Shore Park over Maumee Bay. The waterspout tracked just north of the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center and moved onshore.
Several trees blew over and damaged the boardwalk.
