Matt Gaetz, a former US Representative, announced on Thursday that he was withdrawing from consideration for President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general amid federal sex trafficking investigations, stating that his “confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction” for the new administration.
Gaetz announced the withdrawal after consulting with senators to seek their support for his confirmation for the post. While he emphasised that he had received strong support from senators, he did not want to be a distraction to the critical work of the Trump administration.
