Massive project aims to shield St. Tammany from floods [Video]

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper announced the authorization and advancement of the $5.9 billion Flood Risk Management project, marking Louisiana’s largest-ever single investment in flood protection.

“This is a historic day for St. Tammany Parish,” said Cooper. “Since my administration took office, this project has been one of our top priorities. Our citizens have endured the tests of weather and flood events over the years, and this project will provide critical infrastructure to protect our residents, and their homes and businesses from future flooding risks.”

The initiative, authorized under the 2024 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), involves building levees in the Slidell area, elevating homes, and upgrading drainage systems parish-wide.
