Mary Persons forfeits games, pays fine due to ineligible player [Video]

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — The Mary Persons football team was forced to vacate four of its wins in the 2024 season and must pay a $1,500 fine due to having an ineligible player on the team, according to a Monroe County Schools press release.

The release revealed that, following an investigation from the Monroe County Schools administration, a player, who transferred from another Georgia High School Administration (GHSA) school, was ineligible by GHSA bylaws.

The release added that GHSA officials determined that Mary Persons did not submit the correct paperwork for the transfer student to play and did not properly outline the “academic eligibility” of the currently unnamed player.

Mary Persons was forced to forfeit all four games the ineligible player had played in this season and are now 0-4 as a result.

The football team is also under a severe warning status for one full calendar year.
