MARION, Iowa (KCRG) -Marion held a ribbon cutting for its new $28 million public works building.

The new building is 144,000 square-feet with enough parking space for 61 city vehicles as well as multiple wash and service bays.

Marion Mayor, Nick AbouAssaly, say this new building will be better able to serve the growing community.

“As our city grows we need more equipment more employees and to have a modern well equipped facility that we can grow into,” said AbouAssaly.

The building will also serve as a command center in case of a natural disaster.

The city paid for the building through its Special Revenue and Road Use, Solid Waste, Sanitary Sewer and Stormwater enterprise funds.
