Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and police held a press conference on Sunday morning regarding a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday night in West Oakland at DeFremery Park.
Police responded to the shooting in the 1600 block of Adeline Street just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.
According to Thao and police, the shooting happened during the McClymonds High School Alumni Action Committee reunion picnic, which was held at the park.
Oakland police said during Sunday’s news conference that the victim was just two days shy of his 39th birthday. Police are holding off on releasing the victim’s name until his family can be reached.
Police believe there may have been more than one suspect in the incident.
