Man hospitalized following officer-involved shooting in Stonington [Video]

STONINGTON, Maine (WABI) – Maine State Police are investigating after a deputy shot a man who allegedly drew his firearm on Saturday.

Officials say a woman called 9-1-1 saying that her son, 35-year-old Erik-Thor Himpler, was going to burn down their home along Weed Field Road in Stonington.

Authorities say when deputy John Staley arrived he found Himpler walking along the road and that Himpler refused commands to stop.

A press release from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said that Himpler allegedly lifted a gun from his waistband and was then shot by deputy Stanley.

Himpler was taken to the hosptial with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Stanley has been placed on administrative leave as is standard protocol.
