Man behind 2 St. Louis arsons sentenced [Video]

ST. LOUIS — A man committed arson twice, and now a judge has sentenced him to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. 

On July 15, 2022, 52-year-old Vaely Berry threw a gasoline-filled bottle on the roof of a supermarket and grill in St. Louis’ Walnut Park West Neighborhood. The fire he ignited damaged the roof, the press release said. 

Then on Dec. 8, 2022, Berry threw a gasoline-filled aluminum bottle on the roof of another store in the Baden Neighborhood damaging the roof again, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. 

Berry is a convicted felon barred from possessing a firearm but a revolver and a shotgun were recovered inside of Berry’s home during the investigation of the fires, according to a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
