Man arrested after 30 cats recovered from home: Coventry PD [Video]

Investigators learned that over 30 cats in “various conditions” were living on the property, police said.

COVENTRY, Conn. — The Coventry Police Department arrested a man in an animal cruelty investigation Thursday after they said over 30 cats were recovered from a home.

Derek VanDoren, of Coventry, is facing a cruelty to animals charge and is expected in court on Oct. 9. Police said he was released on a non-surety bond.

Police said an investigation began after a community service officer received a report about an “abundance” of cats at a home on Carpenter Road.

Investigators learned that over 30 cats in “various conditions” were living on the property, police said.

Police said a good Samaritan assisted in capturing and removing the cats from the home before a veterinarian evaluated and treated them.
