City officials in Rutland kicked off the start of the Main Street Park Project with a groundbreaking Monday. The park is known for hosting concerts on Sundays and Wednesdays as well as events with the Chaffee Art’s Center. According to Rutland Parks and Recreation, the project is broken up into four phases. The first focuses on the roughly 100-year-old gazebo. “We want to make sure we bring something that’s going to continue to last,” Parks and Rec. Superintendent Kim Peters said.The renovations aim to make the gazebo more accessible, including the removal of the current railings to improve stage visibility and the addition of ramps for wheelchair access. The Gazebo will also be lowered closer to the ground.
