MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Mahomet’s village president will not seek re-election once his term is up in the spring of 2025.
Sean Widener has served the community in different positions since 2006. First with planning and zoning, then on the board of trustees, and finally as the president starting in 2015.
But now, he knows it’s time to focus on his day job at Clark Dietz overseeing engineering in Chicago, suburban Oakbrook and Champaign.
Looking back at the last 18 years, he said he’s proud of the economic development in town and the Downtown Master Plan.
But, there is still more work to wrap up before he officially hands over the reins. One project he wants to “check off” is in connection to the downtown. Widener would like to see the Master Plan wrap up with a “successful ending.”
At the same time, he is focused on economic growth.
