The NBA legend is expanding his impact on sports in the District.
WASHINGTON — NBA legend turned businessman Earvin “Magic” Johnson is joining the ownership group of another District sports franchise. The Washington Spirit announced Thursday that Johnson has joined the club’s investor group.
The strategic investment comes as the Spirit continues to expand its influence in women’s professional sports, the team said in a press release. The team said Johnson’s involvement will help accelerate the club’s growth.
The Washington Spirit is the hottest team in D.C. right now. With 12 wins so far this season, the team has tied the club record for most wins in history, and currently sits in second place in the National Women’s Soccer League. The team is set to take on the Portland Thorns on Saturday at Audi Field.
