Mackinac Bridge to close to traffic on Labor Day for 66th Bridge Walk [Video]

ST. IGNACE, MI – The Mackinac Bridge will close to vehicle traffic during the 66th Mackinac Bridge Walk.

Scheduled for Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, the event is expected to draw tens of thousands of pedestrians to the Michigan landmark.

The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6:30 a.m. to noon to accommodate the walking event. Travelers planning to cross the bridge that day should plan accordingly.

Connecting Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas over the Straits of Mackinac, the Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere. It opens to foot traffic just once a year.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will lead the walk, stepping off at 7 a.m., followed by all others participating.

The 5-mile-long suspension bridge will be open to foot traffic from 7 a.m. to noon. Walkers must start before 11:30 a.m. from either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace. There is no …
