Lowcountry Food Bank fighting holiday food insecurity in the community [Video]

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Every day, families in the Lowcountry are struggling and do not know where their next meal will come from, so organizations in the Lowcountry are working to put food on their tables.

In the Lowcountry, over 12% of people are food insecure, according to Brenda Shaw, the chief development officer for the Lowcountry Food Bank.

The Lowcountry Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that hosts food distributions for those in the community who are food insecure, meaning they have limited access to safe and nutritious food.

Children make up over half of the individuals who are considered food insecure across the 10 counties that the organization serves.

During the holidays, Shaw says that people may think more about those who are struggling and feel more inclined to offer them help, but this is a year-round issue.
