TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Firefighters who died recently while serving their communities were honored for their service a loved ones and coworkers gathered in Tuscaloosa where their names were read aloud and added to a state memorial.
Dozens gathered for the memorial service as the Alabama Fire College continued the annual tradition to honor Alabama’s fallen firefighters.
Memories and emotions brought some people attending the service to tears.
The event also filled people with pride.
“I think it’s important for people to remember those that have fallen, no matter when they have given service,” explained Summer Lawson, whose father, William A. Baumgartner, was added to the memorial. “They did something for people they didn’t even know. And they helped them through some of the most difficult times. And maybe they couldn’t save their house or their belongings, but they showed up when they were needed.”
