LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police Officers began their annual Thanksgiving mission by delivering meals to several hundred people across the city.
The effort involved officers from all eight divisions of the department, partnering with community organizations to ensure that no one went hungry on the holiday.
It’s part of LMPD’s annual Thanksgiving Outreach.
“We have over 70 officers and more than 40 professional staff helping out today,” LMPD Sgt. Tony Sacra.
The event, which included delivering meals to locations like Lourdes Hall, is a long-standing tradition, with meals prepared for about 1,200 to 1,300 individuals. The first lady of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church, Vanessa Nelson, coordinated the event from the church’s “command center” on Bland Street.
“Actually, my husband’s in well, I’m in charge. He thinks he is, but you know” Nelson said. “We all work really well together.”
