BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Gov. Jeff Landry and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) held a press conference on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with updates on Hurricane Francine.

GOHSEP held a Unified Command Group (UCG) exercise before the press conference. Louisiana Climatologist Jay Grymes gave updates on the storm at the press conference in the GOHSEP Media Room.

According to Grymes, some rain is to be expected in the area but the heavy rain and wind aren’t supposed to begin until Wednesday. Final preparation for the storm is recommended to be completed on Tuesday.

A hurricane warning has expanded from the Louisiana coast to East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes.

Landry issued a disaster declaration during a Monday press conference. The governor’s office said the storm is expected to bring four to eight inches of heavy rain across the southern part of Louisiana, possible tornadoes and damaging winds.

“We are continuously preparing for this storm,” said Landry.
