BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A piece of land that has been part of the Brooksville community for decades could soon be sold.

Some local Scouts are fighting to hold on to the property, but a legal loophole could lead to the land being sold off for development.

It’s a slice of old Florida local Scouts have visited for close to 50 years. But former Eagle Scout Eric Cupps said that could soon change.

“The land needs to stay with the Scouts and be protected,” Cupps said.

It’s called the Sand Hill Scout Reservation, and it was donated to the Scouts by supporter Larry Die Polder back in 1978.

8 On Your Side obtained a copy of Polder’s will, which reads that the property must never be used in any way that can be deemed commercial and is solely for the Scouts to cherish.
