WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — This week marks The United Way of Greater New Haven’s annual week of caring. The initiative calls on volunteers to get out in the community to make a difference.

University of New Haven students volunteer with United Way
They rolled up their sleeves and added a fresh coat of paint, while others worked to trim bushes and get rid of weeds in the community garden.
“Week of Caring is an opportunity for volunteers to give back to their community. It initially started as a day of caring but then we realized we wanted to give folks more of a chance to participate in our events,” said Dennis Velasquez, who manages volunteers with the local United Way.
