Local organization, community come together to help teen battling cancer [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A stroll in the park turned into a big surprise for 18-year-old Ayanna Byrd. The teen is battling cancer.

“Well, I was just planning on just doing a regular walk to keep in shape, but this got me. This really got me. I was not expecting all these gifts from people that don’t even know me,” Byrd said.

Byrd was chosen by the non-profit Operation Surprise Attack as a recipient of the organization’s Harvest of Hope Campaign.

The mission is to inspire and support kids experiencing health challenges.

The community is asked to send uplifting cards to sick kids.

Byrd received more than one thousand cards plus a homemade pillow case, gift cards and much more.

“The amount of gifts she received is more than we’ve ever had other than our holiday campaign for any child. It’s an amazing blessing,” the founder, Lisa Fulton said.
