Local nonprofits come together for Love Shouldnt Hurt campaign for domestic violence awareness [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – This October, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), several local organizations will host a community event to share essential resources and foster solidarity for those affected by domestic violence.

Alyssa Ropell, development manager at the Domestic Violence Resource Center; Krystal Copenhaver, Safe Embrace outreach and education specialist; and Amanda Martinez, victim advocate at Washoe County Human Services Agency, stopped by Morning Break to talk about their “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” campaign and events.

The first DVAM event, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nevada, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Wingfield Park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Local leaders, advocates, survivors and the community will come together to take a stand against domestic violence. This family-friendly event will feature community resources, influential guest speakers, food trucks, kids’ activities, giveaways and a live DJ.
