After months of trying to find a new tenant, bulldozers have been called into a Gold Coast sports club rich with local history.
The Gold Coast City Council made the decision to raze the Kirra Sports Club due to the building’s dilapidated condition.
Once a vibrant community hub, the club offered a welcoming atmosphere, serving pub meals and hosting popular open mic nights.
“I used to go in there when I wasn’t working and have a few drinks with a few people. It was always good for a chat,” one local resident said.
It was also the backyard clubhouse for the Coolangatta football team, but has been closed since 2020 after the building was declared to be in a state of disrepair by local council.
