WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A handful of schools in Georgia are celebrating Monday after receiving a prestigious designation from the U.S. Department of Education: The National Blue Ribbon School designation.
“The National Blue Ribbon School award acknowledges and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for and attaining—exemplary achievement,” the department says on its website. “For many educators, receiving the award is the realization of a long-held dream.”
And out of 356 schools nationwide, 10 schools in Georgia — including one in Central Georgia — received the prestigious designation.
While Gwinnett County Public Schools received the most designations, with a whopping four schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools, the other schools run the gambit. Some are Title I schools, others are private academies and more.
