Lidl expands net-zero 2050 commitment [Video]

Lidl Ireland has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions in its supply chain by 2050.

The supermarket chain said it would intensify its commitment to sustainable business practices and climate mitigation as part of its ‘A Better Tomorrow’ sustainability strategy.

Lidl has already committed to net-zero by 2050 across all its business units, and has a target of reducing operational emissions by 46% by 2030

The company has achieved a 10% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Ireland since 2019, crediting the use of 100% green electricity at its 180 stores at its three regional distribution centres.

“Lidl has already made significant progress in climate mitigation. We want to offer our customers products at affordable prices that are in line with our climate targets,” said Elaine O’Connor, head of sustainability at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland.
