LI driver hits bicyclist after suffering medical episode [Video]

NORTH BELLPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A bicyclist on Long Island was critically injured after being struck by a driver who suffered a medical episode Tuesday afternoon, according to Suffolk County police.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., a 44-year-old woman was driving a 2007 GMC Envoy northbound on Post Avenue in North Bellport when she apparently suffered a medical event and struck a bicyclist that was crossing the road, officials said.

The 57-year-old bicyclist was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in critical condition. The driver was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for evaluation.

There were two passengers in the GMC who were not injured, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
