Leaders plan march for man killed by Opelika police officer [Video]

Civil rights and community leaders, residents and more will march to the Opelika Police Department on Sept. 7 to protest the death of Tias Cobb, a 25-year-old Auburn man who authorities said was shot and killed by a police officer during an altercation at Century Park Apartments. 

Civil rights leaders and dozen of residents gathered at Christ Temple Holiness Church on Thursday for the “Justice for Tias Cobb” event. They spent hours planning the march, which is set for 7 a.m. 

“That’s one of the things the lawyer asked us to do. We would organize and that we would march and we would keep it before them that we’re not going anywhere,” said Bishop A.L. Dowdell, who spoke at Thursday’s meeting.

Organizers said the march will start at the intersection of Toomer Street — also known as Magnolia Street — and Martin Luther King Boulevard and lead to the Opelika Police Department at …
