LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A meeting was held Saturday in west Louisville as community leaders brainstorm ways to make the city a safer place for everyone.
The first of three meetings took place Saturday morning at Redeemer Lutheran Church on River Park Drive in the Shawnee neighborhood, as part of the Violence Prevention Network.
Weekly in-person and online sessions include training young people for community building and advocacy.
“Our goal is to help people to really understand the true meaning of community organizing,” event organizer Yvette Goodwin Jamison said. “A lot of people have a lot of ideas. Some of them are the same. Some are very different. But we want to teach the right way of community organizing so that our neighbors, our neighborhoods, our parents, our families and our children, they all understand that.”
