Le Mars Schools seek approval for new elementary school [Video]

LE MARS, Iowa — The Le Mars Community School District is bursting at the seams and needs more space.

The district is asking voters to approve a bond issue to pay for construction of a new elementary school replacing the district’s current aging three Pre-K through 5 buildings.

On Nov. 5, the ballot will include a question for district voters on a general obligation bond of up to $49.97 million. The cost to build the new elementary school is estimated at $67.6 million. The school board would utilize SAVE funds to support the remainder of the project and decrease the cost to district residents, according to the district’s website.

The proposed 151,000-square-foot facility would be located on district-owned property adjacent to the middle/high schools
