Lawmakers seek investigation into Charleston Co. Housing Authoritys selling of homes [Video]

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Five state representatives are calling for an immediate investigation into the Charleston County Housing Authority after learning they are selling 30 homes.

Lawmakers have serious concerns about this matter and have questions about the management, transparency and long-term impact of this sale on the community.

“It seems like the more answers we get the more questions and red flags we come up with,” Rep. Mark Smith, R-Berkeley County, said.

Smith; Rep. Tom Hartnett, R-Charleston County; Rep. Joe Bustos, R-Charleston County; Rep. Joe Jefferson D-Berkeley and Dorchester Counties; and Rep. Gary Brewer, R-Charleston and Dorchester Counties, said the sale of these homes has no buyer restrictions. The houses are all over the county from Hollywood to Mount Pleasant, many of which have been left vacant for years.
