Law Enforcement in purple for Domestic Violence Awareness | On TV [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Local law enforcement is coming together, with shades of purple for a photo-op to raise awareness about domestic violence. This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month signified by the color purple. For around a decade members of the Rapid City Police, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and State’s Attorney’s Office have posed for a group photo in front of the Public Safety Building.

The goal is to bring more attention to the issue and the victims. Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Victim Specialist Rebecca Elger says, “When the community says we’re not going to tolerate it. Right. That’s when different types of crimes stop when their community says we’re not going to tolerate this anymore. So it just needs to be a community awareness. And it’s just education like everything else. One step at a time.”
