KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A furry friend from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is in the running to win a big award!
Rocket, the KCSO therapy dog, was nominated for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award, an annual contest hosted by the national behavioral health provider, FHE Health.
Rocket is a certified therapy dog and serves first responders and the greater community in North Idaho.
He is part of the KCSO K9 Unit and Peer Support Team.
Since his time with KCSO, he has accompanied deputies, fire fighters and veterans on hundreds of visits to people recovering from crisis situations.
He has sat with staff and families in hospitals, schools, hospice facilities and veterans’ homes.
The contest’s winning dog and handler will receive a $2,000 check from FHE Health in support of their work, a Chewy gift basket, a feature on a blog and a $2,500 donation made in their honor to FHE Health’s partner organization, First Responders Pack Foundation, which trains therapy dogs …
